Steve, do pigs necessarily give birth more quickly to offspring than other animals? Is this a truism learned on the farm, or is it just a Brit expression?
On topic, from what I've seen of those little netbooks, they seem to be built for the Unix-like command line environment as opposed to Windows GUI based one. If XP comes free, it's just as easy to uninstall if and when I get my own little computer. In fact, I would prefer this because it makes the computer cheaper.
My 2 cents.

Meh, Windows has its problems, but Linux isn't a viable alternative for most people.
Apple is able to make fun of Windows usability because OSX is actually easier to use than Windows. However, it really doesn't make sense to say "Windows isn't as good as OSX so use Linux" when Linux is even worse than even Windows from a UI standpoint.
Maybe someone could make a good desktop, or netbook OS out of Linux, but I have yet to see it.
Keep in mind, like you, I do all of my development in Linux. I'm not criticizing that aspect of the OS.
